Library Assistant - Youth Services:

Location: Laurens County Public Library; Main Branch (1017 West Main Street, SC 29360)

Status: Full-time; 40 Hours

Salary: $13.18 per hour, plus benefits (Compensation includes salary and a full health, retirement, vacation, and sick leave)

Function: Under limited supervision, this position works the service desk, assist patrons with basic questions as needed. Operate Integrated Library software to manage patrons and materials, including checking books in and out a well as monitoring condition of the items. Provide readers advisory and assist with displays and programs related to the duties as required. Reports to the Youth Service Coordinator.

Requirements: High School Graduate and some advance education desire. Good computer and internet skills are required. Must work well with the public and know basic of public service. Attention to detail is a must. This position is in the Youth Service department, so he/she must be able to work well with children, teens, and parents. Familiarity with Children's literature and programming is a must. The successful applicant is required to pass pre-employment drug testing, and are subject to random testing. Compensation includes salary and a full health, retirement, vacation, sick leave and benefits package.

Librarian - Technical Services Manager/ Cataloger:

Salary: $42,000, plus benefits (Compensation includes salary and a full health, retirement, vacation, and sick leave)

Function: Under limited supervision, provides internet, office application, and general assistance to patrons using computers at the library. Collection Development selects books and audiovisual materials for adults, makes recommendations for children’s materials. Weeds collection as needed. Order and maintain lease collection. Assists technical service as needed in cataloging or processing books. Identifies areas in need of further development and makes recommendations and performing related duties as required. Reports to the Library Director.

Requirements: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program and eligible for professional certification by the South Carolina State Library. Excellent computer and Internet skills, including current library related technology, are required. Must have strong commitment to public service and be aware of, and able to implement current trends in library service. The successful applicant is required to pass pre-employment drug testing, and are subject to random testing. Compensation includes salary and a full health, retirement, vacation, sick leave and benefits package.
